Imaginary Dwellings

Imaginary Dwellings includes works that address land rights, settler colonialism, forced displacement, and migration. The exhibition also demonstrates humanity’s adaptability, resistance, and perseverance through banners, posters, and ephemera created by community organizations and activists fighting for housing rights, which is a human right.

Masters of Linocut and Woodcut-Shadows

Tartu House, Estonia.
International exhibition “Masters of linocut and woodcut” in homage to Estonian Master Printmaker Peeter Allik (1966 – 2019). The exhibition will take place at the Tartu Artists’ House (Estonia) during the Academic Gustaviana Society’s “Peeter Allik” Tartu Printmaking Festival, June 6– 12, 2022. The Festival is a connecting platform for European, Latin American, American and Asian networks with individual programs of internationally acclaimed artists and collectives.

Bolas de fuego: Culture and Conflict in Central America

Bolas de Fuego: Culture and Conflict in Central America draws from the Hood Museum’s limited collections to tell stories of communities from the following countries: Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Panama. Focused on the conflict-laden twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the installation examines turning points in the region’s political and social history, while attending to the themes of race, ethnicity, and migration.

¡Printing the Revolution!
The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now

Traveling exhibition that originated at the Smithsonian American Museum.
This exhibition is the first to unite historic civil rights era prints alongside works by contemporary printmakers, including several that embrace expanded graphics that exist beyond the paper substrate. While the dominant mode of printmaking among Chicanx artists remains screen-printing, this exhibition features works in a wide range of techniques and presentation strategies, from installation art, to public interventions, augmented reality, and shareable graphics that circulate in the digital realm. The exhibition also is the first to consider how Chicanx mentors, print centers, and networks nurtured other artists, including several who drew inspiration from the example of Chicanx printmaking.

Printmaking: A Social Practice (UW-Madison Alumni Exhibition)

University of Wisconsin-Madison, Main Gallery, Class of 1925, and 1308 Gallery, Memorial Union and Union South, Madison, WI.
Featuring 76 University of Wisconsin–Madison multigenerational alumni, each utilizing various reproducible printmaking techniques to create traditional or unique works involving technological strategies, sculptural structures, moving images, digital illustrations, book arts, and hybrid print methods. These artists share and participate in the rich history of printmaking’s allure of the multiple and its dissemination from an agricultural landscape, fostering a dedication to inquiry, labor, creative problem solving, and the sharing of their knowledge which benefits the broader field.

23 août-10 octobre 2021 Pauly Friedman Art Gallery, Misericordia University Dallas, PA 18612 Réception d'ouverture 14 septembre, 17h30-19h30 Les œuvres de l'exposition racontent des histoires de découverte de communauté et de compréhension dans un nouvel environnement. Drummond, une immigrante de la Jamaïque, utilise des œuvres à base de fils aux couleurs vives dans sa série « Les Derrières » pour se concentrer sur les attentes culturelles de l'image corporelle. Fernández, qui a grandi en Équateur, s'est inspirée des expériences d'étudiants sans papiers lorsqu'elle était enseignante à l'Université du Texas pour créer une installation artistique de chapelets blancs suspendus. Le pinceau lâche de Kommanivanh reflète son enfance en tant qu'immigrant du Laos. Les œuvres sculpturales de Manalo contiennent les textures d'objets ménagers que vous pourriez trouver dans une maison philippine-américaine. À l'aide de peintures qu'il mélange à la main, Shpanin, né dans l'ex-URSS, associe les symboles de l'art populaire aux couleurs de l'art numérique. Whelan s'inspire des thèmes de son héritage irlandais et recrée la surface réfléchissante des icônes catholiques à l'aide d'emballages en papier de chocolat réutilisés. Histoires de migration
14 août-25 septembre 2021 Commissaire invitée : Tara Sabharwal Wilmer Jennings Gallery at Kenkeleba/ 219 East 2nd st. à Avenue B New York, New York 10009| Il y a aujourd'hui plus de 80 millions de personnes déplacées dans le monde. Nous savons maintenant que les causes de la migration sont nombreuses, complexes et mondiales par nature – colonisation, esclavage, néo-colonialisme, catastrophes environnementales, extinction ethnique, persécution politique, guerre, pauvreté – la liste s'allonge. Dans le même temps, les réfugiés du monde entier sont également confrontés à une vague de xénophobie. Ici, « l'autre » est non seulement diabolisé, mais aussi transformé en menace existentielle. En cette ère d'anxiété globale, la simple « altérité de l'autre » devient une autre source d'anxiété. Les artistes de cette exposition ont plus que affronté des idées et des situations difficiles. Grâce à leur art, non seulement ils survivent, mais ils s'épanouissent intellectuellement et spirituellement, et ils nous offrent des conceptions uniques de la beauté, de la perspicacité et de la reconnaissance et de la compréhension qui en découlent. Many Wests : des artistes façonnent une idée américaine

À la fois, « l'Occident » peut évoquer des images de colons coloniaux robustes, de cow-boys armés d'armes à feu ou d'étendues vacantes d'une beauté naturelle. Many Wests: Artists Shape an American Idea offre de multiples vues de « l'Ouest » à travers les perspectives de quarante-huit artistes modernes et contemporains.
